Why Ellie speaks posh

THE Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding singer, Ellie Goulding, who was raised by her supermarket-worker mother on a Herefordshire council estate, has revealed the secret behind her plummy tones.

‘People often ask me why I don’t have a Herefordian accent, because my siblings do,’ says Ellie. ‘But I was obsessed with newsreaders when I was a kid, so I emulated the way they spoke.’

Talking at the Cambridge Union, the pop star adds: ‘People say I’m well-spoken, but it’s actually from obsessively watching the news and period dramas as well.’
