Royal Ascot’s revealing new rule

-

WOMEN racegoers have always risked being ejected from Ascot’s Royal Enclosure for displaying too much flesh — but this year they’re being encouraged to show a bit of leg.

The rigid dress code for the most exclusive section of the Queen’s race meeting was changed two years ago to allow jumpsuits. But women were solemnly informed that their outfits must reach the ankle.

Now, however, Ascot’s chief commercial officer, Juliet Slot, tells me the rules have been amended again.

‘This year, you can wear jumpsuits with a cut below the knee,’ she says at a party in London’s Soho. ‘And that is for the first time.’

Miss Slot explains: ‘We’ve made the changes because of fashion. [It] does challenge us. We have to tweak things — we are constantly talking to stylists and fashion editors.’

The actress and former model Diane Kruger would keep within the dress code in this Chanel outfit (pictured right).

At next month’s meeting, will we really see female members of the Royal Enclosure, such as the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex, donning jumpsuits that show off their slender calves?
