A DRAMA about elderly men swearing and wheezing their way through a heist doesn’t sound like appealing viewing, and were this not an incredible true story, and were the men not played by the actors they are, that would be the case. ITV’s nightly four-parter from writer Jeff Pope (Stan & Ollie) — twice delayed from 2017 because of legal issues — stars Timothy Spall and Kenneth Cranham (pictured) as two of the real-life crooks who hoped to become multimillionaires by raiding a safety deposit facility in London’s eponymous jewellery quarter in 2015. The way that Pope digs into the tensions between the men, and into the tension of the heist itself, makes this compelling TV.
