Paying a high price

-

WHEN is the public going to wake up and realise we are being conned and overtaxed unnecessarily over climate change?

The revelation that solar farms received more in tax allowances than the value of the electricity they produce is ridiculous.

What about all those thousands of wind turbines, which have destroyed swathes of our countryside, but stand motionless because of not enough or too much wind?

Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon, from ‘I am willing to believe anything’ teenagers to ‘I need some publicity’ film stars and politicians.

The climate has fluctuated over the past 2,000 years. The Romans had vineyards in Northumberland and in the 18th century the Thames froze solid.

Calculations by climate change campaigners are flawed. They are based on guesswork regarding increases in population and longrange economic forecasts.

These same people predicted in the Seventies the world would run out of oil by 2000 and not so long ago told us all to buy diesel cars.

No one is saying we should do nothing, but sensible, wellthoughtout plans are what is needed that don’t cost us a fortune and do not spoil our beautiful countryside.

BRIAN CAuLFIELD, Worcester. TO EXPECT this country to curtail its carbon use will only affect the poorest who can’t afford electric cars and other mod cons.

The rich will carry on as usual with their expensive lifestyles, designer goods, first-class air fares and virtue signalling.

MARY CuBITT, Holt, Norfolk.
