Monger battles to first win
BILLY MONGER recorded his first single-seater win since losing both legs in a horrific racing accident two years ago. The 20-year-old won the Euroformula Open’s Pau Grand Prix after an early gamble to switch to wet tyres put him last, only to pay off. ‘I didn’t believe two years ago that I’d be winning races. I can’t believe it — I was dead last after the first lap when I pitted. It was so slippery I came in [for wets] and it was the right call.’ Monger races in an adapted car run by Carlin as a result of injuries suffered at Donington Park in a 2017 British F4 race.
