WHY KICK IT OUT HAD TO SAY SORRY FOR RANT OVER HUGHTON
BRIGHTON chairman Tony Bloom was understood to be furious at the suggestion made by Troy Townsend, Kick It Out’s head of development, that Chris Hughton’s ‘shabby’ sacking was linked to the colour of his skin. Concerned by the threat of legal action, Kick It Out quickly issued an ‘unreserved apology’ to Bloom, the club’s directors and staff and everyone at Brighton — one of the most progressive clubs in English football. Hughton received a standing ovation when he appeared on stage at the League Managers’ Association dinner just 24 hours after his shock dismissal.
