Gray: It was a battering

- By ADAM CRAFTON

WATFORD striker Andre Gray admitted he and his team cannot bear to watch a repeat of their 6-0 ‘battering’ by Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Watford were competitive for the opening 38 minutes but, after falling 2-0 down shortly before half-time, capitulated in a dismal second half. Gray, who was a second-half substitute, says the Watford dressing room was shellshocked after their collapse. ‘It’s hard to put into words,’ Gray, 27, said. ‘We got battered in the end. The scoreline doesn’t lie. ‘It’s hard for the manager to say anything in the dressing room. Difficult for anyone. Everybody knows we got battered. We lost to a better team.’ Asked if his team will watch the game back, Gray said: ‘I don’t think so. It’s hard to sit there… We got blown away. We just want to forget about it.’ The striker did, however, urge supporters to remember that an 11thplaced finish, along with an FA Cup final appearance, constitutes the club’s best Premier League season. He added: ‘It’s been the best season in the club’s history. We deserved to be here. ‘So did City. We’ve been two of the best teams in the FA Cup. But we’ve come up short. We know how far ahead of us they are. It’s not rocket science to see that. We just need to try to step up and push on next season.’
