...while Lib Dem knights pose with ‘old pal’ George
A FORMER Liberal Democrat Cabinet minister was yesterday ridiculed for ‘ hurting’ his party’s chances in the EU elections by posting a picture with George Osborne.
Sir Danny Alexander, chief secretary to the Treasury in the coalition government, tweeted the photograph of himself with ‘old friends’, the former Tory chancellor and ex-Lib Dem leader Sir Nick Clegg.
The group were all in casual gear as they grinned for the camera.
It is not known where the picture was taken but Sir Danny said he was ‘returning home after a short trip to California’, where Sir Nick is now Facebook’s head of global affairs.
The Lib Dems are currently riding high in the polls – but last night Labour gleefully pointed out the reminder of the coalition may not help the party’s prospects. Labour education spokesman Angela Rayner said: ‘Excellent timing, Danny, just to remind people who were the architects of austerity in the awful coalition government.’
