Sunny today – but rain is on way for bank holiday

- By Richard Marsden

MUCH of Britain is set for a welcome spell of spring sunshine – but prepare for typical bank holiday weather.

After a few warm days, waterproofs will probably be required this weekend when wind and rain are forecast.

Today should be the warmest day, with temperatures of up to 22C (72F) in southern England.

Temperatures are likely to stay at 21C (70F) in central and southern England and Wales, and 19C (66F) further north – above the seasonal average of 16C (61F).

Met Office spokesman Olly Claydon said: ‘Quite a few days of settled weather are likely and it will feel pleasantly warm.’ But isolated showers are possible over the coming days, especially close to the eastern coast tomorrow, and some patchy rain could affect the West on Thursday.

Sunshine and isolated showers are likely on Friday.

As for the weekend, the Met Office forecast states: ‘On Saturday, much of the UK may well start dry, until rain reaches western areas later in the day.

‘Showers or perhaps longer spells of rain are likely on Sunday and bank holiday Monday, along with stronger winds.

‘However, most areas will see dry and fine weather for part of the weekend. Temperatures are likely to be a little below average. Changeable, cool weather is likely to continue through half-term week.’
