Llorente to leave Spurs after final

- By SAMI MOKBEL

TOTTENHAM have missed the deadline to extend Fernando Llorente’s contract, signalling the end of his career in north London. The option to renew Llorente’s deal by 12 months expired on Saturday and, unless there is an unexpected turnaround, the striker will leave Spurs after the Champions League final a week on Saturday. Llorente’s goal against Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final second leg proved pivotal as Mauricio Pochettino’s side went through on away goals. The Spaniard also came on at half-time to play a key role in Spurs’ 3-2 comeback win in Ajax that secured a place in next month’s final against Liverpool. But the 34-year-old looks certain to leave the club on a free transfer before next season as Pochettino begins to reshape his squad. Tottenham signed Llorente from Swansea in 2017 as a back-up to Harry Kane. He has scored 13 goals in his Spurs career but Pochettino is looking for a younger striker to play second fiddle to Kane. AC Milan, Roma, Valencia and Marseille are among the clubs eyeing a move for Llorente.
