Now he faces EU probe over his lavish gifts from donor
A EUROPEAN probe was launched into Nigel Farage’s expenses yesterday.
Antonio Tajani, the president of the European Parliament, referred the issue of expenses funded by businessman Arron Banks to a watchdog.
Five MEPs will decide whether Mr Farage broke the parliament’s code of conduct, which states all members must declare expensive gifts, The Guardian said. It was reported on Channel 4 last week that after the Brexit vote, Mr Banks funded a £450,000 lifestyle for Mr Farage, including a Chelsea home and chauffeured car. Mr Farage denies any wrongdoing.
It also emerged yesterday that Mr Farage sought money for his Brexit Party from fringe Right-wing figures.
He addressed a gathering at London’s Ritz hotel last month, attended by John Mappin, a Putin cheerleader who has posted about vaccine conspiracy theories. The party declined to comment.
