Railway saga shows we’re on right track

-

THE story of the model railway display destroyed by vandals has touched a chord for a very good reason. However eccentric people like Market Deeping Model Railway Club members may seem, the fact remains that they are the backbone of the British character: passionate, hard-working individuals determined to contribute to their community. It reminds me of the time the Blue Peter Garden was wrecked, also by vandals, in 1983. I was 16 and it seemed like the end of civilisation. Thankfully, the model railway folk have been inundated with support, both moral and financial. Rather like the ravens in the Tower (who produced chicks last week for the first time in 30 years), I get the feeling that so long as the likes of the Market Deeping Model Railway Club survive, the kingdom will be safe.
