Blues to offer old boy Cech senior role
CHELSEA want veteran keeper Petr Cech — who faces them in next week’s Europa League final — to return to the club next season after he quits playing. The Blues will offer 37-year-old Cech a position — potentially as a sporting director — after the all-English final in Baku. Last night Cech, who played for Chelsea between 2004 and 2015, responded to reports that he has already accepted the post
by tweeting: ‘Despite the news today as I had already said to everybody before, I’ll make a decision about my future after the last game. Now my sole focus is to win the Europa League with Arsenal.’
Sportsmail revealed the Blues’ intention to offer him a route back to Stamford Bridge in January. Chelsea have been looking for a football administrator following Michael Emenalo’s exit
last season. Meanwhile, Maurizio Sarri has been contacted by Juventus over replacing Max Allegri. The interest may help Chelsea avoid sacking Sarri. Their compensation bill for managers since Roman Abramovich’s takeover is more than £90m after they lost their battle yesterday with Antonio Conte and were ordered to pay him £9million.
