Bond film jinx: Now Craig needs ankle surgery
It’s a James Bond film which has already been bedevilled by bad luck.
Now the latest 007 project has suffered its biggest twist of fate so far – with star Daniel Craig having to undergo ankle surgery.
the actor, 51, was filming for the untitled 25th Bond film in Jamaica when he hurt himself while running. He is understood to have twisted his ankle and torn a ligament. A tweet from the official James Bond account said yesterday: ‘Bond 25 update: Daniel Craig will be undergoing minor ankle surgery resulting from an injury sustained during film-teeth ing in Jamaica.
‘Production will continue while Craig is rehabilitating for two weeks post- surgery. the film remains on track for the same release date in April 2020.’
Craig, who has played 007 for 14 years and does many of his own stunts, was reportedly furious about the accident earlier this month. A source told the sun: ‘Daniel was suited and booted for one of the last scenes in Jamaica. He was sprinting during filming when he slipped and fell quite awkwardly.
‘He was in quite a lot of pain and was complaining about his ankle. As you’d expect, he was also pretty angry that it had happened. He threw his suit jacket on the ground in sheer frustration.’
He was flown to the Us for Xrays and was examined by a top surgeon who had previously treated England football captain Harry Kane. Craig’s injury is the latest setback in the filming of an increasingly-chaotic instalment of the Bond franchise.
Production was first held up after original director Danny Boyle quit. Filming was later cancelled at Pinewood studios near London after Craig took a tumble.
the Daily Mail told last week how the script is being constantly rewritten on set with a committee of writers, including Craig and Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Boyle was replaced by Cary Joji Fukunaga, who brought in writer scott Z Burns to rework the script. Craig then recruited Bafta-winning Miss Waller-Bridge to help with further redrafting.
Craig has been in the wars since taking over the role from Pierce Brosnan. He knocked out two while filming 2006’s Casino Royale. He then ripped a muscle in his shoulder, bruised ribs and sliced his finger while shooting Quantum Of solace in 2008.
And filming for 2015’s spectre was halted for two weeks so that he could have surgery. He said of his injuries at the time: ‘I’ve had my right shoulder reconstructed, my right and left knees operated on – and my thumb hurts!’
