Gatwick mulls anti-drone radar

-

GATWICK Airport is in talks to buy a counter-drone radar system from defence contractor Qinetiq after hundreds of its flights were cancelled before Christmas.

Drone sightings near the airport’s runway caused chaos last December, causing mass disruption for three days.

Qinetiq boss Steve Wadey told the Mail that the firm is in talks with airports including Gatwick about providing security equipment.

Revenue rose 9pc in the year to March 31, when it clinched five long-term contracts with UK, US and Canadian clients, to £911m.

But profit fell 15pc to £123m, largely because of large sales of property and other investments a year earlier.
