Shaw’s solo fitness drive

LUKE SHAW has been training at Manchester United’s Carrington HQ this week to get a head-start before a tough pre-season.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned his stars that any who return overweight risk being left out of the club’s tour of Australia, Singapore and China.

Solskjaer has been disappointed by the fitness of his players and many at the club believe it played a part in their drastic dip in form towards the end of the season.

The United boss is promising changes, with fitness staff told to plan a regime that will enable the squad to maintain a high-energy pressing game throughout the 2019-20 campaign.

Shaw has been criticised in the past for not watching his weight and will even take one of United’s fitness coaches on holiday to ensure he stays in shape and meets Solskjaer’s demands.

Meanwhile, James Wilson is the surprise name on a list of 10 youngsters expected to be released by United this summer.

The striker, 23, was one of the club’s best prospects after two goals against Hull on his Premier League debut in May 2014.

However, a series of unsuccessful loan spells and serious injuries mean Wilson has struggled to build on his early promise.

United are being priced out of a move for Crystal Palace right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with the Eagles wanting as much as £70million for the 21-year- old academy product. That has forced the club to look instead at PSG’s Thomas Meunier, 27, likely to be available for around £25m.
