Bayern on trail of unsettled Sane

- By JACK GAUGHAN

Manchester city are braced for a bid from Bayern Munich for contract rebel Leroy sane.

Bayern president Uli hoeness confirmed yesterday his club are exploring the possibility of landing the 23-year-old, who is seen as a perfect replacement for departing duo arjen robben and Franck ribery.

hoeness stressed this week the German champions would not spend more than £70million on any player, a figure set when they smashed their transfer record to sign defender Lucas hernandez from atletico Madrid.

sane is valued at closer to £90m by city. the winger was one of Pep Guardiola’s first signings in 2016, costing £37m from schalke, but has endured a difficult campaign. Bernardo silva and raheem sterling were Guardiola’s first choices in the wide positions during the treble season. riyad Mahrez was also picked ahead of sane (right) for some matches.

sane has not signed the new contract on offer to him and, with two years left on his deal, he could move on. that would free up funds for city to land Benfica forward Joao Felix.
