Santander fees gaffe
SANTANDER has been forced to hand customers £1.4m after failing to warn them about overdraft fees.
The bank paid out the refunds because it did not properly notify about 20,000 account holders they could face extra charges for accidentally going overdrawn.
The blunder affected those who opened certain types of current account between February 1, 2018 and February 20 this year.
a technical problem meant they were not signed up to alerts which warns anyone who strays into the red without arrangement.
santander told regulators when it learned about the fault. apologising to account holders, it revealed it is handing back an average of £70 per customer.
