Boy, 6, scales Three Peaks in just 24 hours

- Daily Mail Reporter

A BOY of six is believed to have made history by becoming the youngest person to complete Britain’s Three Peaks Challenge.

Lucas Lawrenson is thought to have broken the unofficial age record for doing the task in less than 24 hours.

Accompanied by his father, Adam, 33, he scaled Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 23 hours, 46 minutes and 24 seconds.

They took on the feat in aid of Deptherapy, which rehabilitates injured Forces veterans through scuba diving programmes.

The charity is close to Army veteran Mr Lawrenson’s heart after he tripped a hidden bomb while serving in Afghanistan. The blast knocked him off his feet and burned holes in his boots but he was otherwise unscathed. The father and son from St Helens, Merseyside, set off at 2pm on May 19 to climb Ben Nevis, arriving back after five and a half hours.

They started Scafell Pike at around 2am the next day, taking three hours and 15 minutes. The Snowdon climb started at 9.30am the same day, which they completed in five hours.

Lucas managed to raise £1,300. His father, a medical technician for North West Ambulance Service, said: ‘I am super proud of how a six-year-old can achieve something like this.

‘I have spent hours researching and there is no official record for the youngest person. I always knew he would do it, he is out every week with me climbing.

‘The hardest part was Scafell, climbing at 2.45am when it was pitch black.’

The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 10,052ft (3,064 metres).
