ASTON VILLA IN-TRAY

- LAURIE WHITWELL

SIGN Tyrone Mings on a permanent basis. Villa could not afford a deal in January with Bournemouth asking for £15million but the defender is ready to leave Eddie Howe’s team this summer and a reunion with Dean Smith makes sense. Mings was hugely influential in his preferred centre-back role.

MAKE sure Jack Grealish stays. There would have been major doubts over his future if the club had stayed in the Championship, with Tottenham still interested, but Grealish always wanted to play for Villa in the Premier League and should confirm his commitment after promotion. There will be suitors but his captaincy helps Villa’s cause.

ASSESS options on loan players. Tammy Abraham, Axel Tuanzebe, and Anwar El Ghazi have all made significant contributions to Villa’s season and all three could return next term. There is a potential £25m deal for Abraham, while El Ghazi could cost £10m. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to look at Tuanzebe but Villa will talk to Manchester United too.

REWARD Smith. Villa were 15th when Smith took charge, so for him to guide them to the Premier League in seven months is a tremendous achievement, not to mention how he has reconnected players and fans. He will earn a handsome promotion bonus but fresh terms could be in order.

STRENGTHEN in the transfer window. Priorities are a new full back and right winger, with Glenn Whelan also out of contract. The goalkeeper position might also need reviewing, although Jed Steer has been impressive. Doubts remain over Orjan Nyland and Lovre Kalinic.
