Labour MP: Anti-LGBT parents are right
A LABOUR MP has been reported to the chief whip after telling Muslim parents protesting against LGBTinclusion lessons that they’re ‘right’.
Roger Godsiff told campaigners they had a ‘just cause’ and pledged to continue fighting their corner.
His comments sparked a backlash from within his own party. Shadow Education secretary Angela Rayner said Mr Godsiff’s views were ‘discriminatory and irresponsible’ and did not represent Labour. She reported his comments to chief whip Nick Brown while a petition calling on his Hall Green constituency to deselect him had attracted more than 2,100 signatures last night.
For weeks, mainly Muslim protesters have been demonstrating outside Anderton Park Primary School in Birmingham. Parents have been keeping their children out of lessons, saying they were ‘ too young’ to learn about LGBT relationships and that the teachings contradicted Islam.
Mr Godsiff’s comments came during a protesters’ meeting. He told them: ‘ I believe in telling it as I see it, I am not just somebody who is a mouthpiece. I will continue to work to try and bring this dispute to an end... I will continue to fight your corner.’
