Taxpayers’ anger at £2.4million bill for the Sussexes’ cottage

Eye-opening poll on public’s view of ‘Fab Four’ reveals...

THE full extent of public anger at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for forcing the public to foot the £2.4million cost of renovating their Windsor home is revealed today.

A total of 57 per cent say it was wrong to make the taxpayer pay so much for the luxurious Frogmore Cottage refurbishments – and only 23 per cent disagree.

And 75 per cent say it should have been done much more cheaply. A mere three per cent defended the cost.

A Survation poll for the Daily Mail shows that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are regarded as much better at letting the public see the progress of their children than Harry and Meghan, who have been accused of being too publicity- shy surrounding their baby son Archie. A total of 74 per cent say William and Kate have handled the matter better than the Sussexes, whose approach is favoured by just one in ten.

According to a survey of attitudes to the 11 leading royals, Meghan is viewed as the second most secretive, just behind the Queen. The Duchess of Cambridge is seen as the most open.

Asked to pick their favourite royal, those polled put the Queen top, followed closely by Harry. Prince William is third, followed by Kate. Meghan is joint-fifth, level with Princess Anne.

Despite Meghan’s showbusiness past, Harry is viewed as most ‘charismatic’ royal, with the Cambridges both close behind the second-placed Queen. Meghan is way down the royal stardust league, on a par with the 98-year- old Prince Philip.

Meanwhile the public believe the younger royals have a ‘greater sense of entitlement’ than the Queen and Philip, and Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. But there is sympathy for Harry and Meghan’s desire for privacy concerning details of Archie’s birth and christening. The public back their decision to keep the names of the godparents secret by a margin of 35 to 22. Similarly, they support their decision not to announce where their baby was born by a margin of 30 to 25. Archie’s birth certificate confirmed it was at London’s private Portland Hospital. A total of 39 per cent say the Prince of Wales will be a ‘good king’, with only 16 per cent saying he won’t.

Some 71 per cent want the monarchy to remain, with only 21 per cent wanting to scrap it.
