Nick: I won’t name my fellow sex ring ‘victim’

He claims they met in Disneyland to discuss evidence

- By Stephen Wright

ALLEGED fantasist Carl Beech yesterday refused to name in court the witness he says could corroborate his ‘extraordinary tales’ of abuse by a VIP paedophile ring.

He told jurors he would not reveal his identity because he did not have the man’s permission. Beech said he met the witness at Disneyland Paris to discuss the idea of him coming forward but he declined.

Beech, 51, formerly known by the pseudonym Nick, has alleged throughout that a boy – who he first called Fred and then John – shared his ordeals. He claimed that both were abused by their stepfathers, both went through sexual degradation on military bases and that his friend was present at an abuse party where a boy was stabbed and strangled to death by the former Tory MP Harvey Proctor.

The Crown says he is a figment of the defendant’s imagination. Prosecutors claim emails presented to the police purporting to be from John were written by Beech. Giving evidence for a third day yesterday, Beech insisted John was a real person and that they met at Disneyland Paris to discuss the abuse case.

However, when he was asked by his barrister to name John in court, he refused. He said he had been in contact with John in 2014 and 2015 to pass on requests from the Metropolitan Police for him to speak to a detective and corroborate Beech’s story.

Beech told Newcastle Crown Court: ‘He wasn’t keen initially, he was quite... not angry I had gone to them, but upset. He wanted to do what he could to support and help me but he had himself to think of as well.’

He insisted he had not written the emails pretending to be John.

Beech told the court: ‘I helped John set up the account. I set up the email address and he put in his passwords. He was with me in my home as I set it up.

‘He was reluctant to provide statements but I wanted him to come forward quite desperately.’

They met to discuss him coming forward at a hotel in Disneyland Paris in 2015 where Beech said he was staying with his son. He told the court: ‘He was still reluctant but still wanting to do the right thing. He wanted to do it for me but he didn’t want to do it because he didn’t feel he was able to.’

Beech also spoke of his shame at being found in possession of a collection of images of grave child abuse. earlier this year, he admitted five counts of making indecent images and one of voyeurism at an unrelated hearing. Beech said he initially denied the offences because he was ‘totally ashamed’.

Beech denies 12 counts of perverting the course of justice and one count of fraud. The trial continues.
