Rosie ‘found hanged after splitting up with boyfriend’

- By Alan Shields

MISSING graduate Rosie Johnson was found hanged having recently split up with her boyfriend, an inquest has heard.

The body of the 22-year- old was discovered in woodland on the Isle of Wight four days after she was reported missing.

The zoology graduate was last seen shortly before 10.30pm on Saturday, June 22, by her roommate at PGL’s Little Canada activity camp. She was spending the summer working there as a field studies instructor.

An inquest at Isle of Wight Coroner’s Court heard Miss Johnson had separated from her boyfriend Brendan Storer, 27, and was worried about work just before she went missing.

Her Facebook page described her relationship status with Mr Storer as ‘complicated’. The inquest heard Miss Johnson, who had studied at Glasgow University, had been drinking alcohol and was in a ‘heightened emotional state’ in the run-up to her disappearance.

She was also said to have been anxious about a mediation meeting at work, following what is understood to have been a minor dispute with another employee. Miss Johnson, whose uncle is Scottish Labour MSP Daniel Johnson, was reported missing by her employer on Monday, June 24, when she did not turn up for work.

A huge land, sea and air search was launched to find her, which Miss Johnson’s mother Julie, 52, joined after travelling from her home in Scotland. She last spoke on the phone to her daughter, originally from Strachan, in Aberdeenshire, just hours before she went missing.

Miss Johnson’s body was found at 3.20pm on Friday, June 28, the court heard, and a post-mortem examination found the cause of death was hanging. The inquest will resume on November 20.
