France to tax online giants

FRANCE has approved a three per cent tax on revenue raised in the country by internet giants such as Google, Amazon and Facebook.

Until now, tech firms have put ‘European’ operations in low tax regimes such as Ireland to protect their huge revenues in Britain or France.

Britain is set to bring in a two per cent tax next year – but it could be ditched by a new prime minister to avoid enraging Donald Trump, who believe US companies are being unfairly targeted.
