McCartney’s little brother is in the pink!

-

MIke McCartney, younger brother of ex-Beatle Sir Paul, is delighted to have received a British empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to Merseyside.

the 75-year- old musician and photographer, who wrote the Liver Birds theme and Lily the Pink, tells me: ‘It’s just a diddy little medal, but I’m shocked at the amount of people who’ve congratulated me. Paul and his wife nancy rang from new york and he said: “Congratulations, we’re chuffed!” and I replied: “Well, you have one or two yourself, bro!” ’

AuTHoR Louis de Bernieres enjoyed the stage adaptation of his novel, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, which opened this week in the West End, but admits it’s only now he’s starting to appreciate the 2001 film version. ‘I did see the film recently accidentally on television and thought, “this is improving with age”.’
