FELIX VALLOTTON
THE young Vallotton was a member of the ‘Nabis’ (‘Prophets’) group, along with Bonnard and Vuillard. Marriage to a rich young woman set him free to create his own strange style, and making woodcut prints helped him develop hard-edged paintings of mysterious figures in scenes that seem to anticipate 20th-century cinema.
