WATCHDOGS are failing to tackle ‘incomprehensible’ utility bills and penalties for loyal customers, MPs said.
Regulators have failed to get to grips with over-complicated charges and poor service at energy, broadband and water firms as well as insurers and banks, according to a report by the Public Accounts Committee. It said regulators take an inconsistent approach and fail to work together to prevent consumers being exploited. The elderly, poorer households and those who cannot use the internet are particularly vulnerable. The four main regulators – Ofwat, Ofgem, Ofcom and the Financial Conduct Authority – have a duty to protect the interests of consumers, MPs said.
