Fancy a holiday? How about a coach trip to Primark?
IT may not offer the same charm – or cultural enrichment – as nearby Warwick Castle or Shakespeare’s Stratford.
But visitors to Birmingham can now enjoy a package trip to the city’s latest tourist attraction – the world’s biggest Primark.
Travel companies have laid on coach trips to the new superstore, with packages ranging from a £14 bus journey to a £115 overnight stay in a nearby Holiday Inn.
The £70million flagship store, opened in April, covers 160,000sq ft and boasts a Disney-themed cafe, beauty studio and five floors of fashion. Yorkshire-based CAB Executive Travel has already packed out coaches, with more trips planned from Doncaster and Scunthorpe next week, at a cost of £20 per person.
Managing director Carl Bruce said there had been ‘lots of interest’, adding: ‘It’s been a very popular trip. We’ve been filling 53seater buses.’
And for anyone in Scotland with the time – and inclination – Thorne Travel Experience are offering an overnight Primark trip in November, for £115 per person.
Guests will depart Kilwinning, south of Glasgow, at 7am, arriving in Birmingham for 1pm. They can recharge overnight at the Holiday Inn – ready for more Christmas shopping before the coach leaves at 2pm.
Meanwhile for shoppers in Barnsley, there’s a £14 trip by Yorkshire Rose Holidays in October, while Woods Travel in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, has scheduled an outing in September for £25.
Tim Kelly, Primark’s director of business development, said: ‘ Our customers can expect a great experience. They can spend time with friends and family, eat great food, recharge and have fun and find everything under one roof.’ He added: ‘We’re proud to bring this great store and everything it has to offer to Birmingham.’
But the popular Primark superstore has suffered some teething issues – and was forced to temporarily close its Disney cafe earlier this month after a mouse was seen. Environmental health officers were called in and a deep clean was carried out.
