- Golf Correspondent at Royal Portrush By DEREK LAWRENSON

Justin Rose dared to dream of a rare open victory for an englishman after joining tommy Fleetwood and Lee Westwood in the mix in a thrilling second round at Royal Portrush.

‘it would be worth everything to win and it’s great to see tommy and Westy in with a shout as well,’ said the 38- year- old, who finished joint-second last year.

no englishman has won the open Championship since nick Faldo recorded the last of his three victories in 1992.

Fleetwood and Westwood are just a shot behind the joint halfway leaders, irishman shane Lowry and American JB Holmes, with Rose two adrift after all three lions shot four-under 67s on day two.

Rory Mcilroy fell agonisingly short of making the cut, carding a superb 65 after his 79 on thursday.
