Shamed MP’s aide quits… after abusing boss on own Twitter page
DisgraceD former Labour MP Jared O’Mara was savaged on his Twitter feed last night by one of his staff as ‘morally bankrupt’.
One of the independent MP’s team hijacked his account to accuse him of not caring about his constituents, being ‘selfish’ and having contempt for his supporters.
Mr O’Mara was elected as MP for sheffield Hallam in 2017, beating former Lib Dem leader Nick clegg.
But he was suspended from the Labour Party months later after a string of homophobic messages on his Twitter account came to light.
Yesterday, one of his communications staff, gareth arnold, used Mr O’Mara’s own Twitter account to attack him, writing: ‘ comms team signing off forever.
‘Jared, you are the most morally bankrupt person i have ever had the displeasure of working with.
‘You do not care about your constituents. You do not care about anyone but yourself.
‘i cannot and will not defend you and your vile, inexcusable contempt for the people who voted you in. You selfish, degenerate p***k.’
Mr O’Mara has never asked a question in the commons chamber, and for a time he closed his constituency office in sheffield.
Mr arnold continued: ‘ My fear is that now (as i quit) the rest of the staff will leave and once again you will close your office and stop helping anyone but still take your wages until you have the decency to call a by-election.
‘Leaving constituents desperate for representation again. No matter if they are having their homes taken away, their liberties disgraced or being deported because of your inaction.
‘sheffield Hallam deserves so much better than you. You have wasted opportunities which people dare not to even dream of. ‘consider this my resignation.’ Mr O’Mara, 37, defeated Mr clegg in the snap 2017 election after having gained the support of Labour’s grassroots Momentum group for his candidature.
He soon became a member of the commons women and equalities select committee, but he was forced to resign just five months after his election when historic tweets emerged about women and gay men dating up to 2009.
in one, he said a member of girls aloud should be sacked and invited her four bandmates to have an orgy with him. among other homophobic insults, he referred to gay men as ‘poofters’. a barwoman accused him of making transphobic slurs towards her, and he made racist comments about Danes and spaniards.
He was reinstated by Labour a year later, but resigned soon after. He now sits as an independent.
