The Girl Guide badge... for mixing ‘mocktails’

- Daily Mail Reporter

FORGET swimming, cooking or learning about history – the ultimate skill for modern Girlguides is creating non-alcoholic cocktails.

Last year Girlguiding introduced new badges and activities to ‘reflect the world that girls live in today’. And the youth organisation, previously called The Girl Guides Association, yesterday revealed the mixology badge was the biggest hit. The art of making ‘mocktails’ with fruit, juice and spices was the most popular choice for girls aged 10-14 with 6,628 badges completed in the last year, the Daily Telegraph reported. By contrast, only 82 girls opted to work for the badge given for studying the Guiding movement’s history.

Other classic badges, such as for ‘hostess and home skills’, were axed last year for being outdated.

Girlguiding’s Kat Lee said: ‘We’re happy to see so many [girls] embracing the new badges.’
