Ella names daughter in tribute to baby’s granny Tessa Jowell
ELLA MILLS, the food blogger better known as Deliciously Ella, and her husband Matthew Mills have paid tribute to his mother Dame Tessa Jowell by naming their newborn daughter after the late MP.
The social media star, 28, told her 1.6million Instagram followers that her first child, born on Saturday, is called Skye Tessa Camilla Davan Mills.
The couple have become parents 14 months after Labour stalwart Dame Tessa died at the age of 70.
The former Cabinet minister had been diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2017. She died in May last year after having a brain haemorrhage.
Her daughter-in-law posted a picture of herself cradling Skye next to her husband,
4, revealing that her daughter had been born at home using a birthing pool with the help of a midwife, a doula or nonmedical birth companion, and a hypnobirthing specialist.
She wrote: ‘Born in the pool at home. The most powerful, surreal, totally extraordinary moment.
‘Beyond grateful to my husband for being a hero, the best support I could have ever imagined, our midwife and doula for making us feel so safe and supported.’ She also thanked her hypnobirthing specialist for ‘the inspiration, wisdom and guidance she shared’ which the writer explained had ‘empowered us more than I can explain’.
She added that they are ‘completely in love’ with their new arrival.
Hypnobirthing is a trendy method of pain management that can be used during labour and birth. It involves using a mixture of visualisation, relaxation and deep breathing techniques to reduce discomfort. Ella and Matthew, who married in 2016, have been congratulated by The Brain Tumour Charity.
Chief executive Sarah Lindsell said: ‘We are so very happy and thrilled for Ella and Matt on the birth of Skye, and send our warmest congratulations.
‘We are honoured to have worked alongside them since Matt’s mother, Tessa Jowell, lost her life to brain cancer last year, and we are hugely grateful for their ongoing support as we honour her legacy by striving to improve the life of everyone diagnosed with a brain tumour.’
Mrs Mills founded her Deliciously Ella blog in 2012 and has become a prominent force in the health food world on social media. She is the daughter of former Northern Ireland Secretary Shaun Woodward, while her husband is chief executive of the Deliciously Ella company.
