Shamed MP faces new sex pest claim

- By James Tozer

A FORMER Labour MP who is quitting Par- liament over sex pest claims has been accused of bombarding a second woman with creepy messages.

Jared O’Mara, 37, announced he was resigning his Sheffield Hallam seat after a 20-year-old member of staff, Jennifer Barnes, revealed the MP had professed to being ‘madly in love’ with her.

Just hours later, Abigail Neely, 28, came forward to say his advances were so relentless she was forced to block him on social media. She revealed Mr O’Mara had said he was ‘infatuated’ with her and was ‘the dude she deserves’. The messages allegedly began while she was working at a bar where he was a DJ.

But they continued after he won former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg’s seat in 2017, the Sunday Mirror reported.

Mr O’Mara said he was ‘not well and in the process of receiving medical help’ for mental health issues. The MP, who will resign on September 3, said the women’s claims were ‘true, sadly’.

Last week, his chief of staff Gareth Arnold said he was ‘the most disgustingly morally bankrupt person I have ever had the displeasure of working with’.

Yesterday, Miss Barnes welcomed his resignation but added: ‘I am worried he is not going to be true to his word.’

Jeremy Corbyn has admitted that some figures on the Left had ‘crossed the line’ when it came to anti-Semitism. And he said it was his responsibility as party leader to stamp out the issue. But on Sky’s Sophy Ridge On Sunday, Mr Corbyn also criticised the BBC over its Panorama expose of Labour’s anti-Semitism.
