Meghan can’t f ly on ordinary jets – it’s too dangerous for other passengers, say friends

- By Rebecca English Royal Correspondent

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex should not fly on commercial planes as it is too dangerous for members of the public, it was claimed yesterday.

Actress Jameela Jamil insisted they needed to take private jets because civilians could otherwise be ‘endangered’ due to the ‘powerful’ couple’s risk of kidnap or assassination.

Miss Jamil also branded the Press as racists for daring to scrutinise the couple’s decision to use a private jet four times in 11 days for holidays, while lecturing the public about climate change.

her incendiary comments came as the duchess shared a preview of a photoshoot for her charity fashion line last night.

In the online video, a grinning Meghan wore an oversized blue shirt with navy skinny jeans and peach high heels.

LA-based Miss Jamil, who started her career in Britain but has since found fame in the US, said: ‘Ugh. Dear england and english Press, just say you hate her because she’s black, and him for marrying a black woman and be done with it God dammit. Your bullying is so embarrassing and obvious. You’ve all lost your marbles. It’s 2019. Grow up.’

The actress, who was featured by Meghan on the front page of her issue of British Vogue this month, added: ‘And ALSO, it’s not safe for us to be on the same planes as royals or presidents you absolute muppets. They are prime targets for kidnap and sometimes assassination.

‘It’s in the interest of us civilians to not be endangered by proximity to people in such powerful positions.’

her bizarre comments drew a reply from one of Meghan’s best friends, Canadian fashion stylist Jessica Mulroney, with the emojis of a heart and a thumbs-up.

Mrs Mulroney also posted on Instagram, suggesting criticism of the duchess was motivated by race. She said: ‘ When someone faces unfair criticism, you call it out. When that person is your friend and your family, you call those critics what they truly are. Shame on you, you racist bullies.

‘Three years of undeserved hate and abuse. It’s enough.’

While Mrs Mulroney is a close friend of the duke and duchess – her daughter, Ivy, was a bridesmaid for the couple and her sons, Brian and John, page boys – Miss Jamil has never met her.

She was, however, singled out in British Vogue by the duchess for her own campaign I Weigh, which promotes better body image for women. She has said she was delighted to receive a call from Meghan thanking her for taking part in her Vogue project.

Harry and Meghan’s decision to use private jets to holiday in Ibiza and travel to Nice in the South of France where they were hosted by Sir elton John has sparked debate in recent days. Last month, harry also flew to Sicily and back on a charter plane to give a speech on climate change at the lavish Google Camp green summit.

Harry has made the environment one of the cornerstones of his public work and wrote on Instagram in July: ‘every choice, every footprint, every action makes a difference.’

He has also revealed that he and his wife were planning to limit themselves to two children because of their environmental concerns.

While some, including celebrities such as US talk show host ellen DeGeneres and the singer Pink, have raced to the royals’ defence, others have objected to the suggestion that scrutiny of the couple’s alleged hypocrisy should be linked to racism.

Piers Morgan called Miss Jamil a ‘pathetic virtue-signalling twerp’ and tweeted: ‘even by your standards this is hilariously stupid. The royal Sussex eco-warriors flew in BA economy to Nice last year – nobody died, from memory.’

Indeed, harry and Meghan also took scheduled flights to Morocco this year on an official visit to North Africa, as well to Australia and New Zealand last autumn. harry also travelled to and from a charity polo match in Italy on a commercial plane.

Meghan last night welcomed a group of women to a fashion shoot for the charity Smart Works, for which she has designed a range of clothes. She is the royal patron of the charity, which supports women getting into work by providing free outfits and training.

In a video on the Sussex Royal Instagram account, the former actress laughed and smiled with the women working on the shoot, which will promote the autumn launch of her fashion range.
