Two goals and a red card for Bale

-

GARETH BALE came to Real Madrid’s rescue twice to salvage a 2-2 draw at Villarreal last night — but was then sent off in added time. Real fell behind in the 11th minute to a Gerard Moreno strike after a mistake by Sergio Ramos. Bale equalised in first-half stoppage time but Villarreal restored their lead through Moi Gomez. Bale pulled Madrid out of trouble again with a low strike in the 88th minute, but then got himself sent off by picking up two yellow cards for fouls in the dying moments. La Liga’s other Brit, Kieran Trippier, continued his perfect start to life in Spain as he contributed to Atletico Madrid’s 3-2 comeback at home to Eibar yesterday. The former Tottenham full back, recalled by England last week, helped his side come from two goals down to win it with a last-minute goal from Thomas Partey. Joao Felix and Vitolo also netted for Diego Simeone’s side. Atletico are top of La Liga, four points ahead of Real and five ahead of Barcelona, who were held 2-2 at Osasuna on Saturday despite a first goal for the Catalans from 16-year-old Ansu Fati. Romelu Lukaku was subjected to monkey noises from Cagliari fans after scoring from the spot for Inter Milan last night. After slotting home the second-half penalty, the 26-year-old glared at the fans shouting vile taunts instead of celebrating his second goal in two games. The penalty sealed a 2-1 win for Inter, who had Alexis Sanchez on the bench. Vincent Kompany got his first win as Anderlecht player-manager at the sixth attempt with a 1-0 win over Standard Liege — although an injury meant he did not play.
