Should ‘non-inclusive’ Fireman Sam be axed?

-

LINCOLNSHIRE Fire Brigade is to axe cartoon character Fireman Sam as its mascot because, as a white male, he does not represent diversity. This sort of nonsense is nothing new. A friend applied to join a fire brigade in Yorkshire. He was well qualified in terms of attitude, fitness and education. At his interview, he was asked if he would be aware of the cultural needs of a Muslim family whose house was on fire. How ridiculous! Like anyone else, the priority is to ensure they are safe.

THE children’s stories Fireman Sam, Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine and Postman Pat reflect the eras in which they were written. It’s about time people started worrying about more important matters and leave our children alone.

MY GRANDSON will be devastated that Fireman Sam has been banned as a fire service mascot. Would it not have been better to send Fireman Sam on an inclusivity course or, better still, replace him with a disabled, mixed-race person who is transitioning?

CHRIS PATE, Worcester.

AFTER the woke brigade has turned its attention to Fireman Sam, will Bob the ‘non-specific gendered builder’ be next?

PHIL NORTH, Brigg, Lincs.

MY TWO-YEAR-OLD grandson loves to wear his Fireman Sam helmet when he watches the cartoon. Oh, the innocence of childhood! Inclusivity is fine, but it is ridiculous that a cartoon character has fallen foul of zealots.

CHRIS SHARP, Leeds. WATCH out, Postman Pat. The snowflakes will be after you next.

COLIN GRAHAM, Brentwood, Essex.
