DALY JOKE IS JUST NOT CRICKET, SAYS GEORGE

- By chrIS FoY

England players were bickering yesterday... over a game of cricket. elliot daly and Jamie George had different takes on a video on social media showing Maro itoje taking the wicket of George — caught by daly. asked for his ‘social highlight’ of the World Cup, daly said: ‘Probably Maro getting Jamie out. Maro isn’t the most naturally-gifted cricketer, but he managed to get Jamie out quite convincingly.’ George replied: ‘he did get me out but i’d scored about 150 before that. i was batting for about two-and-a-half hours. i’m a generous bloke and it was my time to give someone else a go, so i flicked one straight into elliot’s hands.’

GEORGE and Daly introduced scrum-half Willi Heinz as a new member of the squad’s ‘social committee’. He threw Bath flanker Sam Underhill under a bus, saying: ‘Sam has been trying really hard to set up his own social committee group where he adds us all into the WhatsApp group and we all immediately leave! He’s trying his best, but isn’t getting anywhere.’

Ireland are braced for disruption from Typhoon hagibis — meaning ‘Velocity’. Winds in excess of 100mph threaten their match with Samoa in fukuoka on Saturday. The fixture could move elsewhere or be put back to Sunday, before Pool a’s final game between Japan and Scotland. if the match is cancelled it will be deemed a 0-0 draw, which could put ireland out.

NEAL HATLEY, England’s scrum coach, explained how he has benefited from tutorials with French scrum guru Marc dal Maso. ‘I ended up scrummaging with him in the lobby of a hotel at 11.45pm because he wanted to show me the effect it could have if you change feet,’ said Hatley yesterday.
