Hitler has ordered the movement of British Pows to areas in Germany likely to be bombed by the RAF. The object is obviously to deter British bombers. But the RAF will not be deterred, for they believe our prisoners will be willing to take their chance in any raids if it means the defeat of those who hold them captive.

OCTOBER 15, 1964

DR MARTIN LUTHER KING, 35, (pictured) nonviolent crusader for Civil Rights, has won the Nobel Peace Prize. He heard the news today in a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, exhausted after his non-stop campaign. later he told reporters: ‘This is the most moving moment in my life. It is not an honour to me, but a tribute to millions of people . . . of gallantry and good will.’

The novelist and playwright was best known for his Jeeves books. He was living in France when World War II broke out and, as an ‘enemy alien’, was taken to a Nazi internment camp in a converted lunatic asylum in upper Silesia.
