PM has just the tonic to transform country

-

ALL too frequently, our elected representatives seem woefully detached from the anxieties of the everyday public. Health Secretary Matt Hancock understands one concern, though, having struggled to get a doctors’ appointment – a frustration seethingly familiar to millions.

Today, he promises to spend £2.5 billion creating an extra 50 million consultations, provided by 12,000 new GPs and nurses.

Certainly, the huge sums torpedo Labour’s blatant lie that Boris Johnson will sell the NHS to Donald Trump. Polls now show Mr Johnson is more trusted on the Health Service than Jeremy Corbyn. And why not? The Conservatives have nurtured it for over half its life.

Importantly, the GP pledge offers a positive vision of a Tory future, overshadowing the party’s hitherto squally campaign.

Critical as it is, Boris cannot bang on endlessly about Brexit. The PM must explain why voting for him will transform Britain.

So far, his speeches have been ambitious and uplifting. What an invigorating tonic compared with the dreary doom-mongering of Comrade Corbyn.

A passionate Unionist, Boris has already visited all four corners of the kingdom.

His Labour counterpart? Stitching up a risible backroom deal with the SNP to break up the Union in return for installing him in No 10 (although with the Marxist wreaking economic annihilation, Scotland would doubtless be better off out).

Meanwhile, the spotlight shines brighter on the crackpots standing for Labour. One was forced to quit for allegedly calling a Jewish councillor ‘Shylock’ – a disgusting anti-Semitic slur. Another, championed by Mr Corbyn, threatened sickening sexual violence against a Tory baroness.

That they were considered suitable candidates speaks volumes of the hardLeft high command, where common decency trails behind slavish reverence.

It’s terrifying that their leader is within touching distance of Downing Street. But he may get there – if the Brexit Party splits the Leave vote. Nigel Farage has long been a brave political voice – and the Mail commends his singular contribution.

But a vote for him is a vote for Corbyn. And it would also be a vote to destroy Brexit.
