The Waitrose packet of veg with an Aldi label
Middle-class nightmare in couple’s Ocado delivery
A couple were startled to discover that an item in their Waitrose food delivery had an Aldi label on it.
The disappointed customers, who wish to remain anonymous, placed an order with ocado which arrived last Sunday.
When they received their delivery, they were shocked to find that their £2 portion of Mediterranean roasting vegetables – which they were expecting to be from Waitrose – had an Aldi sticker on the back.
The upset husband said: ‘I was really disappointed. I use Waitrose and ocado for good reasons – reputation and home delivery. And I pay for the privilege.’
He added: ‘No disrespect to Aldi or their customers but if I wanted their products I’d go to one of their stores.’
Aldi sell a similar product – Ready to Roast Winter Roast/ Mediterranean Roast – which costs £1.29. It is the same weight as the Waitrose product.
one Twitter user wrote: ‘Waitrose... spend 50p extra on packaging and product image, and sell you the same food you get in Aldi, but twice the price.’ A 2017 BBc report found that Marks & Spencer, Waitrose and Aldi used the same cheese and butter supplier.
ocado has apologised for the incident and said it is investigating the claim. Aldi has been contacted for comment.
A Waitrose spokesman said: ‘As with all retailers, we will share suppliers for some of our products. Any price variation will be reflected in the different specification of the product, such as ingredients used.’
