- Jack Doyle ANALYSIS

BORIS JOHNSON WITH the exit poll predicting a thumping Tory victory, Mr Johnson has the biggest Conservative majority since 1987 and will be back in No 10 this morning in an unquestionably more powerful position.

He has huge room for manoeuvre over Brexit and his domestic agenda. His manifesto was modest, but Mr Johnson has the power in Parliament to transform the country. JEREMY CORBYN IS toast, after taking Labour to its lowest number of seats since 1935. If he hasn’t resigned by the time you’ve woken up, he will soon after. Now comes the war for Labour’s soul, as the hard Left try to keep control of the party, against moderates. Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell will try to carve out a role as interim leader, so he can promote his protege Rebecca Long-Bailey to Shadow

Chancellor and give her a platform to run for the top job. Other leadership candidates are likely to include frontbenchers Richard Burgon, Laura Pidcock and Angela Rayner.

BREXIT

AND we’re leaving, finally! Tory MPs will return to Parliament on Tuesday, pass the Withdrawal Bill and in 50 days’ time, Brexit will – at last – happen on January 31. Forty-seven years after joining the Common Market, the UK will cease to be a member of the EU. The negotiations will continue, however, on the trade deal that follows a 1 -month transition period when very little will change.
