ABRAMOVICH LEGACY ASSURED

-

TODD BOEHLY’S interest in Chelsea suggests there is nothing to fear whether Roman Abramovich stays or goes. He remains a brilliant owner and the club have been hugely successful thanks to his investment, but the next stage is his true legacy. He has secured Chelsea’s place as a member of the European elite meaning the next buyer — whether short-term or decades from now — will also be extraordinarily rich and capable of supporting the club’s ambitions. Boehly (below), part-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, is worth in the region of £5billion and typical of the type of suitor Chelsea will attract. The idea that they will collapse without Abramovich’s backing is therefore far-fetched. Some billionaire will always want to own Chelsea and their status is established now.
