Maddison is ‘not for sale’
LEICESTER manager Brendan Rodgers has told Manchester United to forget about signing midfielder James Maddison next month. The playmaker is also on the wish list of several other top clubs. The Foxes are in talks with Maddison over a new contract that would double his £50,000-a-week wages and Rodgers, whose side are second in the Premier League, says there is no chance any key players will depart. Maddison has been instrumental in helping Leicester set a club record of eight straight top-flight wins and Rodgers said: ‘There will be nobody leaving in January, categorically. It’s really clear we want to keep this squad together. ‘It’s an exciting team with growth and development, so we want to ensure they stay around beyond January. It’s the nature of the game that there will always be speculation if you’re doing well, so long may it continue because James has been brilliant. ‘He’s been efficient, productive — and he’s getting better. He’s a bright young player with a big future.’ Tomorrow Maddison faces Norwich, who sold him to Leicester for £24m.
