There is only one winner — and that’s democracy!

-

ORDINARY people were told we were thick, stupid, uneducated, did not understand the issues and — with a bit of luck — many of us would die soon. Well, hard cheese. We have shown we don’t wish to be part of the EU or be ruled by Marxists whose leaders support the IRA and other terrorist groups. Nor did we wish to see our taxes banged up to the ceiling, affecting our standard of living and job security, to pay for Labour’s madcap economic policies.

TED SHORTER, Tonbridge, Kent.

FINALLY, the silent majority has been heard. Despite the best efforts of the political has-beens Tony Blair, John Major and Lord Heseltine, and the bawling and waving of Remainer placards outside Parliament, those who voted to leave the EU stopped all the arguments with a couple of strokes of a pencil. There is one winner — democracy.

PHIL SANDERS, Barry, Vale of Glamorgan.

MY SHAKEN faith in democracy has been restored. Middle England, the hardworking, conscientious, quiet majority,

HAS finally been allowed to make itself heard. We are not the kind of people to rush to London to scream outside the Houses of Parliament. We are not the kind of people who spend hours on social media denigrating our fellow citizens as ‘thick racists’. We are not the kind of people who support a party led by Marxists who would love to see our country return to the misery of the union-dominated Seventies. No, we bided our time until the moment came to vote. Democracy in its truest sense. We now have a leader to take us out of the EU, who will inspire us and ensure we can hold our heads high again.

Mrs WENDY CASCIO, St Leonards-on-Sea, E. Sussex.

FOLLOWING the General Election, there has been much reference to a so-called reconfiguration of the political landscape. I am not so sure. I voted for democracy, as I suspect did thousands of others. My vote bore no relation to political allegiance.

RICHARD LOADER, Southwick, W. Sussex.
