Ex-Strictly star to take Flack’s place on Love Island

tV presenter Laura Whitmore will replace Caroline Flack as the host of Love Island.

Miss Flack stepped down in the wake of her arrest and assault charge last Friday.

the 40-year- old said she was going through a ‘really rough time’, adding she was ‘glad’ about the choice of successor, who is the girlfriend of the show’s narrator.

ItV has now confirmed that Miss Whitmore, 34, will step in to present the winter series, describing her as the ‘ best person for the job’. the former MtV presenter and strictly Come Dancing contestant said: ‘I want to thank ItV for trusting me at the helm of this huge show. I wish it was in better circumstan­ces.

‘Caroline is a brilliant host and also a friend. she has been very kind to me and strongly pushed me for this role.

‘I’ve watched her host every series and I know I have big boots to fill. I will try and do it justice.’ Miss Whitmore will also be working with her boyfriend of two years, comedian Iain stirling, who narrates the programme.

she added: ‘the Love Island team are the best in the business... including the voice and heart of the show, Iain. He thought he was getting a holiday away from me. Not a chance!’

Miss Flack, who has presented the series since 2015, wrote on Instagram that she is ‘glad it’s Laura’. she added: ‘thank you for your continuous messages of support. It’s a really rough time... but I’m doing all I can to keep my head above water and sort this all out.’

Police were called to Miss Flack’s flat – which she shares with partner Lewis Burton – in Islington, north London at around 5am on December 12 following reports that a man had been assaulted. she was charged the next day.

ItV has not confirmed whether Miss Flack will return for the summer series next year.
