Do you want to prove your love? Then you must kill your ex for me

Teenage girl and boyfriend get 16 years for failed bid to murder mother of his child

- By Richard Marsden

A TEENAGE girl who encouraged her new boyfriend to ‘ prove his love’ by murdering his expartner and mother of his child was yesterday jailed for 16 years.

Sarah Mohamed, 17, who also uses the alias Kyro Mori Akihiro, was found guilty of inciting murder.

Her boyfriend, Rhett Carty- Shaw, also 17, who had been convicted of attempted murder for brutally attacking his ex with a knife, was also given a 16- year term.

Their victim, Iman Nassir, was 16 at the time and had only had a son with CartyShaw two months before the attack. She was stabbed eight times in the head, face, neck and back, but survived.

Following the assault outside her Manchester home, she suffered lasting injuries including nerve damage to her face.

But Miss Nassir, now 17, bravely waived her right to anonymity yesterday, as she recounted her physical and emotional trauma – and told how she now wants to join the police.

Manchester Crown Court heard Mohamed ‘ knowingly encouraged and assisted’ Carty- Shaw’s plot to kill Miss Nassir – buying detergent wipes for him to clean his knife, waiting near the house where the attack took place, and by sending him a string of text messages.

Alaric Bassano, prosecuting, said it was ‘ only a matter of good fortune’ that Miss Nassir wasn’t killed. He added that after fleeing the scene, Carty- Shaw texted Mohamed with the message: ‘ I did it to prove I love you... there was no other way to keep you’.

Sentencing, Judge Alan Conrad, QC, said: ‘ How the two of you could want to cause intentional murder really does defy belief. You are both selfish narcissists who believe the world revolves around you.’

The judge said Miss Nassir was a girl Mohamed ‘ had never met and had done you no harm’.

The court heard the attack on Miss Nassir happened minutes after Carty- Shaw had sex with her at her home.

He then asked if she would use make- up to pretend she was dead and – when she failed to comply – told her he ‘ had to kill her’. Although Carty- Shaw was cleared of rape at last month’s trial, Judge Conrad asked: ‘ What sort of a person behaves in that way?’

Miss Nassir said she knew CartyShaw from Manchester Academy secondary school and they started dating from Year 9. She said he ‘ totally changed’ when he met Mohamed, who she described as a ‘ scary demon type’.

The attack, in May, happened because Carty- Shaw was still seeing Miss Nassir and Mohamed was jealous, the court heard.

Miss Nassir said: ‘ She [ Mohamed] didn’t think about the fact my son was only two months at the time and that I had had my child by C- section. But I now want to put this behind me and make a new start. From what I have seen through the investigation and court process, I want to study to join the police.’

Miss Nassir described the attack as ‘ evil’ and said Carty- Shaw ‘ doesn’t deserve to see his child’ when he is eventually released. In her victim impact statement, Miss Nassir revealed she suffered depression and takes painkillers.

During last month’s trial, Mr Bassano told jurors the attack ‘ sounds unbelievable’.

He said: ‘( Carty- Shaw) had no grievance with Miss Nassir, she had done him no harm and he acted not out of spite, anger, jealousy or resentment towards her.

But Carty- Shaw had continued to see Miss Nassir behind his new partner’s back and she had found out. On May 4, Carty- Shaw visited his ex- girlfriend at her home for two hours, bringing along a bag with a large kitchen knife and change of clothes ‘ hidden’ inside. First, he had sex with her despite her ‘ telling him she didn’t want to’, the court heard.

Carty- Shaw then tried to persuade Miss Nassir to fake being strangled using make- up.

Mr Bassano said: ‘ He then told her that he had to kill her. Outside in the garden, he unleashed extreme violence.’

Mr Bassano added: ‘ In repeated text messages, [ Mohamed] instructed [ Carty- Shaw] to video what he was doing and to send her the video so she could satisfy herself that it had been done.’

Mohamed and Carty- Shaw were named after Judge Conrad lifted reporting restrictions.
