BILLIE Eilish was just 1 when she posted a song written by her brother, Finneas O’Connell, on SoundCloud as part of a homework assignment.

Within months she had signed a record deal with a major label after the song, Ocean Eyes, went viral.

Born Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell in December 2001, she is the homeschooled daughter of jobbing LA actors. She joined a choir aged eight and began writing music at 11. After Ocean Eyes, she released a string of singles and made it to No 1 in the US with Bad Guy.

Her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, was released last March and topped the charts in the US, the UK and several other countries. It was reported to be the highest-selling debut album of 2019 and the biggest North American debut of the decade, shifting 1 ,000 units in the first week.

Miss Eilish also became the youngest female solo artist to score a No 1 album in the UK. She directed the music video for her single Xanny, released last month as she celebrated her 18th birthday.

It was subsequently reported that she had clinched a deal with Apple TV+ which will see the streaming service pay $25million (£19million) for a documentary about her.

Miss Eilish has been open about her struggles with depression and worries about her appearance, as a result of which she prefers to wear baggy clothing. However, he said in an interview in September that she was in the happiest place of her life.

She has also spoken about the downside to fame and how sometimes she forgets that her fans are not her friends.
