STRAIGHT TO THE POINT

-

THE Department for Work and Pensions is chasing me for £1,500 which they say is for Universal Credit payments. I told the DWP that I have never claimed this benefit, but it has still set up a Direct Earnings Attachment to take the money from my salary. Please help!

G.S., Middlesex.

AS Soon as i contacted the DWP it stopped taking money from your salary. it appears you are a victim of fraud and that someone made a claim for Universal credit at a Jobcentre three hours away from you.

the DWP says it is investigating but cannot comment further while the case is active. TESCO offered Paddy Whiskey at a discount price of £15 a bottle until New Year’s Day. As I’m partial to a drop, I ordered six bottles on December 30, to be delivered on January 3. They arrived on time, but I was charged £20 a bottle. This doesn’t seem fair.

P. S., email. teSco has confirmed that orders had to be delivered before the promotion ends to qualify for the discount. it says this is clearly marked on tesco.com during the ordering process and on the customer’s order confirmation. CO-OP insists I signed up to a five-year funeral plan, but I’m sure I was told at the time it was only three years. I pay £70.10 a month and I’ve already paid £2,944. Is there any way to change the terms now?

M.C., Markfield. co-oP has reviewed your paperwork and says you did sign up to a five-year plan worth £4,206 in march 2016. it says it is going to arrange a meeting with you to make sure you are happy with the payment plan. if you do cancel your plan, you will have to pay a £250 cancellation fee, so you will get only £2,694 back. I BOUGHT a pair of £52 Vans shoes in September. Within a few months a hole appeared in one of the shoes. But when I complained, Vans said I could not have a refund because the fault was not down to a manufacturing defect.

L.W., London the consumer rights Act states that goods should be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and last a reasonable length of time — and it’s fair to assume that a decent pair of shoes should last longer than a few months. Vans refused to discuss your case with me, but you say you have since received a refund as a gesture of goodwill.
