Storm brewing over Chancellor’s teabags
A PHOTO of Chancellor Rishi Sunak about to make a cuppa with Yorkshire Tea has led to Left-wing calls for a boycott.
The row started when Mr Sunak tweeted: ‘Quick Budget prep break making tea for the team. Nothing like a good Yorkshire brew.’
The post showed him reaching into a giant container for a teabag and holding a teapot.
But angry social media users accused the tea firm of political bias. One wrote: ‘Never buying Yorkshire Tea again.’
another added: ‘I can’t wait for 500,000 Labour members to boycott Yorkshire Tea.’ The Harrogate-based company, which has been bombarded with angry phone calls, pointed out that Jeremy Corbyn posed with the tea in 2017.
The firm wrote on Twitter: ‘It’s been pretty shocking to see the determination some have to drag us into a political mudfight.’ and Tory MP Dehenna Davison said: ‘I love Yorkshire Tea because I’m a human with taste buds. Calm down!’
